Rooted in the revolutionary spirit of the youth of ’76, and powered by the pulse of today’s generation, Basha is where art becomes protest, where music becomes memory, and where the creative community comes alive.
In 2025, we honour the resilience and brilliance of artists who’ve used their voices, and their visions, to reshape the culture. We’re not just reflecting on freedom. We’re creating it. Together.
It’s Not Just a Festival. It’s a Movement.
Founded in 2012 by Constitution Hill, Basha Uhuru was born to honour the youth who took to the streets in 1976. Today, it offers freedom through creativity, spotlighting the power of expression in shaping society, self, and shared futures.
This is your platform. This is your playground. This is Basha Uhuru.
This year, the festival embraces the theme “Celebrating the Legacy of Creative Expression” — honouring the trailblazing spirit of South African youth and the powerful role creativity continues to play in shaping culture, community, and change.
